They call them the “Oscars of Preservation:” The New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Lucy G. Moses Preservation Awards are bestowed upon architects, craftspeople, public officials, owners, builders and Samaritans who “restore the beauty and utility of New York’s great architecture.”
Which is why our own Tom van den Bout, whose designs and visions grace our potential opportunity pages, received one of those awards last night. His project, 36 Grace Court in Brooklyn Heights, was honored at this year’s ceremony–the only residential project to take home a prize this year. The brownstone, once covered in a modern mental facade, was restored between November 2008 and July of 2009, and van den Bout is sharing the honor with his wife, Brenda Nelson, the contractor, sub-contractors and the home’s owners.
If you’d like to get a look at the miraculous transformation of 36 Grace Court yourself, check out the Brooklyn Heights Spring House Tour.
Congrats, Tom and the team!
